Creating a PDF

June 17, 2010

I just  want to take away some of the spookiness from the PDF format in this post. This format has become highly used yet some do not know what it is. Well, PDF stands for Portable Digital File.

This Portable Digital File unlike previous version of digital files like .doc or .csv, this format is hard to change once you save it. The only way for someone to change your PDF format is for you to give them permission but those are more advance features which are not necessary.

Here are some benifits for using PDF format.

1.) PDF’s supports interactive functions

2.) Allows Security

3.) Very portable and able to compress.

I have a short tutorial on how to create a PDF file using Microsoft word. You can also use stand alone PDF creators. I use Indesign to create my PDF’s. You can google  PDF’s and come up with a bunch of creators.

If this was helpful or useful to you please let me know and leave a comment.

Free Video Software

June 9, 2010

I just wanted to share with you the video software that I use to make my video tutorials. Its called camstudio. You can down load it at http://camstudio.org/ . Its a great way to record presentations off your computer screen.

You can create video tutorials like I do or create video presentations of your computer screen. Post them on Youtube or embed them in your blog or website.

It is very easy to use. Here are some highlights of the software.

1.) you have the ability to save it as an .AVI or a .SWF format

2.) You can record full screen or define the area you want recorded.

3.) You have the option to record audio simultaniously or not.

4.)  You also can highlight the curser so people can easily identify what you are pointing at on screen. I like this function.

Please take a look at the short tutorial below of the software. Just so you can get the feel of what the software can do for you. I would recommend this especially if you are on a tight budget. It is worth the price… lol.

Please leave a comment on what you think about the software. Would this be useful for you?

Make your site viral

May 27, 2010

Make your site viral by adding a “share this” functionality to your site. This was something I found that works great. The point of any website and marketing campaign is to spread the message. Making it easy for others to spread the word and share makes your site more visible.  Go to www.sharethis.com and sign up for an account, it is free.

After you are on the site then click on features in the header. Once you are in the features page then select “get the button”.

In “get the button” page you can customize your button. Select what you would like to show on your button then drop down to the bottom of the screen.

You will let them know where you are going to place the button. Is it going to be on your personal website, word press, blogger, etc. Once you are all set up they have very good tracking to see how people share your page. You can analyze if you have more people on face book sharing your page or Myspace vs. email. Watch the video below

It is a very cool tool to use to analyze your traffic. Hope this helps you with your marketing until next time…Keep creating. If you have enjoyed this article pleae leave a comment and or sign up on my mailing list.

Redesign of Creative Graphic Art

May 25, 2010

Creative Graphic Art website  has gone through a face lift to align itself with the focus and mission of the business. The mission is to help you create.  Click the creative graphic art link to view site.

Help you create better marketing pieces through print and web. Create better marketing strategies and plans. Overall create a better brand wether you do it yourself or hire  me from Creative Graphic Art.

This website has been redesigned so that you can find what you are looking for. A clean and simple design. Let me highlight some of the changes.

The first thing you may notice is all the added white space.  A gradient was added to the background to incorporate the company colors. This was done for readablility.  Reading reverse type is hard on the eyes over a period of time.

The header was redesigned so you immediately know what it is all about. Kept the blue, orange, and white for branding purposes.

The navigation bar was changed for easy identification.

In the navigation bar a share button was added. This share button will allow visitors to share with there friends very easy. In order to use the share button a visitor must click on it. Then they can post the site to any of their social sites or email.

Moved the Book from the side bar to right under the navigation bar. The one on one sign up right next to the book sign up. This was done so visitors can immediately grab what can help them the quickest for the do it yourselfer.

Underneath the book you have free articles and video tutorials to learn the tools of the trade.

Back to the top of the page next to the share is a Portfolio link. This shows some of the work done over the past couple of years.

Additional pages that were not in the previous site is the about page and blog.

If you are interested in graphic design Sign up for the free book. It is a nice easy read full of articles and tutorials.

Resizing your Canvas in Photoshop

May 20, 2010

To resize your canvas in photoshop you want to go to IMAGE –>CANVAS.

There are two ways to change the canvas size.

1.) Absolute

2.) Relative

In absolute method you put the entire size of the image. If you start with a 4in by 6 in canvas and want a 8in by 10 in canvas then you would put 8in by 10in which would result in an increase in the canvas size. The background color will appear.

In the relative method you would check the box name relative. Then you would only enter how much you want the canvas to increase by. Therefore if you have a 4 by 6 image again and you want to increase the borders by .5 inches then you would say1 in for the width and 1 in for the hieght.

You can also just add canvas to one side by changing the anchor.

Changing the canvas size adapts to increasing as well as decreasing. Check out the video below.
